Laparoscopic Heller’s Myotomy / Nissens’s

Constriction in the lower food pipe (esophagus) due to neurological cause lead to difficulty in swallowing called as achlasia cardia. Usually patients are young and this condition severely effects quality of life. Surgery offers 95 % success in relieving the symptoms. Surgery is performed using 4 holes of size 1cm to 5mm in the abdominal wall and the tight muscles of lower food pipe is released and small upper stomach tube is wrapped around it if needed. Patient recovery is very fast compared to open methods which needs long over 15cm cut in the abdomen. Oral diet is started on day 1 and patients are usually discharge by day 2.
